Colin
Hay
Of Men At Work |
Festival Area:
Australian Music Festival
Dates & Times: Schedule |

|
| Biography: In
1967, Colin Hay was 14 years old, traveling by ship through
the Suez Canal, from Scotland to Australia. During that trip,
he got up and played some acoustic guitar, sang a song, and
told a couple of stories. He did that then, and he does that
now. This is the thread that runs through all his work in the
last 25 years. From multi-platinum Grammy award winning
"Men At Work," to the passionately loved solo
acoustic release "Going Somewhere," and his brand
new release "Man @ Work," Colin Hay is a
performer that should not be missed by any music fan
whatsoever.
As frontman and principle
songwriter for the smash group Men At Work, Colin Hay secured
a place in pop music's parthenon with a series of melodically
infectious, invigorating singles marked by Hay's instantly
recognizable voice and perceptive, witty lyrics. Hay is responsible
for one of the most identifiable sounds in pop music: infectious, Caribbean-spiked blue-eyed soul
with a pointedly quizzical lyrical outlook. Classic songs like “Down Under,” “Overkill,” and
“Who Can It Be Now” unfold before the ears like miniature movies, with timeless twists and a
bittersweet sense of humor.

Dates & Times: Schedule |

|
| Biography: On any given Friday night in Melbourne between about 1977 and 1980, before Random Breath Testing and noise regulations stifled our world-famous live music scene, you could go to the
'Dan O'Connell Hotel' in Fitzroy and experience the legendary Bushwackers at their fiery, venom-spitting and ever-endearing best.
It was as hot as hell in the Dan O'Connell, even in winter, but you couldn't help being swept away by the crowd and the music. There were moments in the show when the mob would respond by singing 'Skippy' and doing things that were equally incomprehensible to a first-timer in the
audience
Somehow, 'The Bushwackers' would take you back to colonial days when a bloke was either your mate or a policeman. Somehow it was no longer a crowded pub on a bleak night in Melbourne, but a hot, dry patch of Queensland dirt in the middle of a drought -- or even a hiding place during a shoot with the 'traps' in Victoria...

|
Biography: "Since his recordings in the early 80’s with The Warumpi Band and five subsequent albums released under his own name, Neil Murray has successfully chronicled his passion for what Australia could mean for all of us..."
Raised on a farm in Western Victoria, Murray’s quest to discover more about Australia lead him in 1980 to relocate to the remote Western Desert Aboriginal communities of Papunya and Kintore. His search for a deeper understanding of our original inhabitants resulted in the creation of much of the music on this collection. A painter of vivid lyrical pictures Murray has never compromised in favour of his fascinating stories taking precedence over the eclectic music he creates. Elements of rock, country, blues and folk are present throughout this double CD which features tracks from his solo releases and on CD 2 live and previously unreleased studio recordings.
The breadth of Neil Murray’s talents as a musician and songwriter are on full display throughout his new release.
Murray’s music is powerful, seductive, honest and proudly Australian. His lyrical themes are as relevant to Australia as Woody Guthrie’s are to America....

Company Info: Much of Australia endures a very harsh
climate with uncertain rainfall. When water holes dried up,
game became scarce, or because of some influence of the
Dreaming, the original settlers reverted to their nomadic ways
and simply moved on following their song. The new settlers
called this ‘going walkabout’. The Walkabout Gallery, located in the San Francisco Bay Area will also be a nomad. Walkabout will host short term gallery openings of contemporary Australian aboriginal art in cities throughout North America. By doing this we will bring this exciting new art to the whole continent. Coach Dara "Cowboy" Smith. After coaching the MTSU Women's Rugby program, he wanted to further promote women's rugby by starting high school women's rugby in the Middle Tennessee Rugby Conference. The Red Rhinos Rugby Club works to build not only athletes, but better students as well - on and off of the field. "Focus - Dedication - Determination = Anything is Possible." is what he would say if asked of his philosophy. |
