Info: Thomas Hardy was
just 20 when he sailed from the English port of Devon for the
colony of South Australia in 1850 and only three years older
when he established his Bankside winery on the River Torrens
in Adelaide.
By the time of his death in
1912, he would be hailed as the father of the South Australian
wine industry, having first realized the potential of the now
world-renowned region of McLaren Vale and, through his Tintara
winery, built his business into one of the nation's largest
winemakers.
Over 150 years, five
generations have withstood two world wars, a Great Depression,
the vagaries of a harsh climate and even personal tragedy, to
create the great Australian business that eventually became
part of the world's largest wine company.
In 2003 leading international beverage company Constellation
Brands acquired Hardys and merged it with its own highly
successful wine, beer and spirits business - a move that
created the world's largest international wine business. |

Bundaberg
Ginger Beer
Official Soft Drink Of The Australian Festival |
Festival Area: G'Day
Cafe, Jackaroos & Australian Pavilion.
Dates & Times: Sept. 9, 10 & 11, 2005 during
festival hours |

|
| Company
Info: Little has changes at our Bundaberg brewery since we
made the first back over 100 years ago. Now call us old-
fashioned, but we rather like that way. Sure we've seen some
new faces and equipment, and our range of beverages is now
enjoyed around the world, but one thing has stayed the same -
our commitment and dedication (some call it stubbornness) to
traditionally brewing the finest drinks in the land to genuine
old recipes. There is an irony to all this; by remaining true
to our roots while others have moved with the times, we've
created a unique range of beverages by changing very little at
all. |

Foster
Lager
Official Beer Of The Australian Festival |
Festival Area:
Jackaroos & Australian Pavilion.
Dates & Times: Sept. 9, 10 & 11, 2005 during
festival hours |

|
| Company
Info: Bringing together
a wealth of history, Foster’s Group is the union of some of
the world’s best-loved premium beverage companies. Foster’s
roots are firmly entrenched in the late 19th century. In
1876, Jacob Beringer established Beringer Vineyards in the
Napa Valley and in 1888, the first Foster’s Lager was brewed
and the original Mildara Winery was established.
In 1907, to help cut costs in
the wake of a long economic recession in Australia, the
Foster’s Brewing Company and Carlton Brewery amalgamated
with four other breweries to form Carlton and United Breweries
(CUB). Throughout the
twentieth century, the various entities that would eventually
form Foster’s Group expanded through acquisition and brand
development to become leading beverage companies in their
markets. Carlton and United Breweries became a brewing icon in
Australia through the production of much loved brands such as
Victoria Bitter, Carlton Draught and Crown Lager and
established Foster’s Lager as one of the world’s top
selling beers. |

Cultural and linguistic
diversity was a feature of Australian life before European
settlement. It remains a feature of modern Australian society,

Company Info: More than 40,000 years ago, the first human settlers arrived in Australia.
Nomadic hunter gatherers, these forefathers of today’s indigenous aboriginal people began the development of a rich and spiritual culture known as the Dreaming. The Dreaming, or ritual knowledge, was acquired by ‘singing’, corroborees, rock and bark painting and story telling.
In 1788 the British First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay. Finding no fresh water they moved on to Port Jackson, settled Sydney and established the New South Wales Penal Colony. In this strange and unforgiving land the convicts and their equally unforgiving guards met the local aborigines. With limited success they tried to come to terms with the very different aboriginal culture they found. Their descendants continue today.
Much of Australia endures a very harsh climate with uncertain rainfall. When water holes dried up, game became scarce, or because of some influence of the Dreaming, the original settlers reverted to their nomadic ways and simply moved on following their song. The new settlers called this ‘going walkabout’.
The Walkabout Gallery, located in the San Francisco Bay Area will also be a nomad. Walkabout will host short term gallery openings of contemporary Australian aboriginal art in cities throughout North America. By doing this we will bring this exciting new art to the whole continent. Being nomads, we have low fixed overhead costs allowing us to pass savings along to art lovers and collectors.

Biography: “Only the immense, poetic beauty of Kitto’s lyrics can match her strong vocals. This is an artist with veracity, talent and a spirit that shines with
intensity.” - Beat magazine
Kitto grew up listening to Bowie, Roxy Music and Neil Young alongside Oz rock bands like Australian Crawl and the Hoodoo Gurus. As a teenager in Victoria she learned to play guitar and started to explore the outer limits of her vocal chords.
Now dividing her time between homeland Australia and her European base in Sweden, Kitto’s attracted airplay recently with tracks like Bus Driver
and others from her solo debut Princess of Tragedy which was released independently in
2002, while her latest recording, Precious Junk, has
become her strongest album to date. |

Biography: Born
into a Maori family in Wellington, New Zealand, and now living
in Sydney, Nessa Morgan has a passion for soul and an
earth-moving voice. Her debut album, Sex and Poverty, is
filled with raw, confrontational songs about real life, sung
with as sultry a style as has descended onto the R&B scene
in years (in any country). Her fans in the US include soul
star Alicia Keys and producer Don Was, and she's bound to win
more of them when she performs at the 2005 Australian
Festival.
“She’s Australia’s answer to every sultry soul singer the US has produced. Her voice, her grooves, her style, her attitude - this woman is going to stun the country, and probably the rest of the world as well...”

Bio: The
Vanderbilt Australian Rules Football Club was established in
the Fall of 2001 when it was registered as a Sport Club at
Vanderbilt University. The club began recruiting players
during the Fall semester and within a few weeks already had
nearly ten new players on the books.
The
trend continued in Spring 2002 with several more players
joining the club. During the Spring semester Middle Tennessee
State University also registered an Aussie Rules club allowing
both teams to participate in a series of games. The Fall
season of 2002 took on a slightly different structure to
previous seasons, the focus was on stabilizing the club and
allowing players to participate in regular scrimmages to
increase match practice.
In
2004 the Vandy Aussie Rules Club founded the "National
Collegiate Invitational" tournament - the first ever
hosted College Aussie Rules Tournament in the United States.
The Club also competed in the Nashville Australian Football
League finishing the season with 2 wins and 2 losses in the 3
team competition. |
