NEWS RELEASE
SEPTEMBER 16, 2002

Kids Go Outback at the Australian Festival

The 2002 Australian Festival will feature an Australian Petting Zoo provided by Kentucky Down Under. The Petting Zoo will be open throughout the Festival for Children and Adults to visit and pet Australia's native animals. Animals will include kangaroos, kookaburras, wallabies, dingo and an Australian Sheep Dog herding demonstration.

Kids Down Under will provide an Australian educational & cultural experience for children (and adults alike). Visit the Kids Down Under Booths and taste some vegemite, learn about Uluru (the largest monolith in the world) and hear about Australian Aborigines and let the kids enjoy games that have been played by Australian children for centuries.

Australian exhibitors will bring the world of Australian products to Nashville. Australian exhibitors will help you plan a trip to Australia with our Aussie travel specialist, taste some great Australian confectionery or grab a piece of Australian merchandise - tee shirts, hats, and plenty more.

Metropolitan Nashville public school students recently participated in an Outback essay competition. The students expressed their interest in outback Australia and their desire to learn about Australian culture, meet Australian Aborigines, celebrities and see native flora and fauna. Click here for some exerpts from these essays.

Three winning entries will receive gift certificates courtesy of the Outback steakhouse, West End, Nashville. Winners will be announced on Sunday 22 at 4:45 following the Festival’s final ceremony.

The 2002 Australian Festival will be held during Australia Week in Nashville, Tennessee at Elmington Park from September 21 to September 22, 2002 (10-6pm). There are no admission fees and a portion of proceeds raised will benefit Elmington Park. The Outback Steakhouse is the major sponsor of the 2002 Australian Festival.
